I’m a neurosurgeon who also acts on TV… and the on I’m a neurosurgeon who also acts on TV… and the one thing that always throws me off on set is the “blood.” It’s not just fake it’s insanely sticky. Your gloves start sticking together, every movement makes this tacky sound, and you end up constantly adding KY just to keep your hands moving. It’s one of those behind-the-scenes details you never see on camera… but once you know it, you can’t unsee it.
So now I’m curious which would be grosser to deal with: real blood or TV blood?

You think yawning means you’re tired. But it’s act You think yawning means you’re tired.
But it’s actually your brain stimulating itself to become alert.

Every yawn triggers a coordinated shift in blood flow and fluid around your brain.
That movement helps reset circulation, stabilize pressure, and flip your brain back toward alertness.

Once you see what’s happening under the surface, a yawn feels very different.

Your lungs can grow a tree. This came out of a re Your lungs can grow a tree.

This came out of a real person’s airway.

It’s called a bronchial tree cast an exact replica of the airway anatomy that can block breathing. Some people cough them out… others need a scope to remove them just to breathe again.

It follows the structure of the lungs perfectly.

Dangerous. Real. Hard to believe.

What would you do if this came out of you?

When a patient shows up hours late, most clinics t When a patient shows up hours late, most clinics turn them away after about 30 minutes. But here’s the part people don’t talk about… doctors run late too. Sometimes way later. So where’s the fair line?

If there’s an opening, I try to fit people in. But not every clinic can do that without throwing off the entire schedule.

So what do you think is fair here strict cutoff times, or more flexibility when possible?

Cartilage isn’t supposed to grow back. Once it’s g Cartilage isn’t supposed to grow back. Once it’s gone, we manage symptoms.

This study suggests this is no longer true.

Researchers were able to regenerate cartilage in severely arthritic joints by targeting and blocking an aging pathway. As a spine surgeon, that’s what stands out this isn’t just covering pain, it’s aiming at the root arthritis process.

It’s early. Not ready for immediate clinical use. But if this translates, it could change how we treat arthritis across joints… even the spine.

This is the kind of shift I watch closely.

Would you want access early… or wait until it’s fully proven?

She’s had 12 different tumors starting at age 2. D She’s had 12 different tumors starting at age 2. Different cancers. Different organs. No explanation for decades. Then doctors found a mutation that should be fatal before birth… and somehow, she’s still alive. Her immune system may be so overactive that it attacks tumors as they form, helping her respond extremely well to treatment. Right now, she’s cancer-free. If you had to live through all of this, would you feel angry… or grateful to be alive?

He was being kept alive by machines and still asked to get up and shoot a few baskets.

Not because he felt okay.
Because he made a decision: he was getting better.

He didn’t just survive he thrived… and went on to become a physical therapist.
From patient → helping other patients recover.

That shift from surviving to purpose is everything. #inspiration #recoveryjourney #healthcareheroes #medicalstories #resilience
What it’s really like acting as a TV doctor. I’m a What it’s really like acting as a TV doctor. I’m a neurosurgeon in real life—and yes, I actually act and have lines. I play a regular on the show, and the cast has way too much fun with that. They’re incredibly respectful… but they also know how intense neurosurgeons can be, so they like to test me. This time it turned into a full-on staring contest. So who wins: the neurosurgeon or the actor?

It sounds impossible but it’s been reported 40 times in the medical literature.
The isn’t about shock… it’s knowing when anatomy isn’t normal.
In the patient with prior skull base fractures or prior sinus or pituitary surgery or bad infections in the area, this isn’t routine anymore.
And that one decision changes everything. Please see live fluoro images.
I hope this saves at least one patient.
