As a surgeon, I explain how he survived this extraordinary injury and how surgeons saved him. These CT scans come from a published medical case, and I’m happy he eventually made it home.

He reports that he slipped in his bathtub. I still can’t quite explain how the broomstick got in there. Can you?

If you had to pick between these two treatments fo If you had to pick between these two treatments for knee pain, would you choose robotic knee replacement or worms on your knee? Having a preference doesn’t mean you have a choice.

As a surgeon, I’m struck by how differently the same medical problem can be treated depending on where someone lives. Access to trained surgeons, hospitals, technology, and money can determine which treatments are available to you.

Why should where you live determine the care you get? Is this fair?

You might think working 130 hours a week would be You might think working 130 hours a week would be a big complaint about neurosurgery training. It wasn’t! But the facility managed to frustrate me more with something that should have been simple.

When you practically live at work, the little things start to matter a lot.

If you could eat at only one restaurant for years, what would you pick?

Some surgeon habits follow us out of the operating Some surgeon habits follow us out of the operating room. Apparently, even into the bathroom.

I’ve spent 25 years seeing surgeons take bathroom breaks with their magnifying loupes and headlights still on.

Why do they do this?

Could the tallest man ever have reached 10 feet? Could the tallest man ever have reached 10 feet?

Robert Wadlow was still growing at just 22. As a physician, what fascinates me is how modern medicine could have changed his story. I explain his gigantism, his growth, and what might have been possible today.

Do you think we’ll ever see someone that tall again?

This man tragically lost his penis in a trauma. Fo This man tragically lost his penis in a trauma. For nearly a year, he lived without one and struggled with many complications.

Then he received the world’s first penis transplant. A chance to get back what he had lost.

Just two weeks later, he wanted it removed.

The transplant restored function. But he and his wife faced a psychological struggle no one had anticipated: accepting something this personal from another man.

As a surgeon, I find this heartbreaking. I feel very sorry for both of them. Restoring function was only part of what they needed to feel whole again.

What do you think would be harder: having no penis, or having someone else’s that you couldn’t accept?

A penis transplant was just completed in Vietnam. A penis transplant was just completed in Vietnam. Can a donated penis restore urination, sexual function, and even the ability to father a child?

As a surgeon, I find the outcomes remarkable. But two recipients needed theirs removed, and the reasons were very different. One involved something the man and his wife couldn’t psychologically accept.

I walk through these rare cases and what happened afterward.

How would you feel receiving someone else’s organ, especially something this personal?

I’ve performed thousands of surgeries and always k I’ve performed thousands of surgeries and always kept this mindset. The person trusting me with their brain, spine, and future deserves every ounce of my preparation and effort.

There are two things I do for every surgery. This is how I approach the responsibility of being your neurosurgeon.

What did you think I’d say?

What do you do when your penis stops working and V What do you do when your penis stops working and Viagra doesn’t help?

Most people know about the pills. But how much do you know about the other options for erectile dysfunction? Urologists have some treatments you might never have imagined. Those X-rays behind me give you a clue.

No shame in getting help with your game.

If you had to pick one: needle, rod, or pump?
