Something almost impossible can happen during life Something almost impossible can happen during lifesaving efforts. A person who has lost normal heart function suddenly wakes up. They can talk, move, even try to push the rescuers away because the compressions hurt. But the heart still is not working on its own, and the only thing keeping blood moving to the brain is the treatment being performed. This rare phenomenon is called CPR-induced consciousness. It creates one of the most difficult ethical moments in emergency medicine.
